Place Your Netgear Device and Apply The Power

  • Choose a spot to place your router closer to the existing WiFi router.
  • This placement is just the initial process of WiFi range extender. After that, you can place your Netgear device to your preferred location.
  • Plug your Netgear AC1200 into a power source.
  • Wait for the LED light on it to become amber and then turn its color to solid green.
  • If the LEDs on your device doesn’t light up, just push the on/off button once.

Connect The Netgear AC1200 To Your Available WiFi Network

You can do this easily in two ways:

  • Connect with WPS (WiFi-Protected Setup).
  • Connect with web browser setup.

To use WiFi-Protected Setup to connect your Netgear AC1200 (EX6120) to your main WiFi router:

  • Gently push the WPS button on the side panel of your Netgear AC1200 range extender.

The WPS LED light on your device will blink.

  • Within a couple of minutes, push the WPS button on your router as well.
  • The WPS LED on your existing WiFi router will also blink that indicates that you have successfully made an active connection between your router and the range extender.
  • Don’t panic if the LEDs on your router doesn’t light up, simply push the on/off button and try again later.
  • If your existing WiFi router supports the 5GHz band, then repeat the step 1 and 2 simply to connect the Netgear AC1200 to the 5GHz band.
  • Now, on your WiFi device or computer or a laptop, find the new extender network name (SSID).
  • Connect your desktop, laptop or WiFi devices to the available new extended WiFi network safely and securely.
  • You have to make use of the same WiFi password or passphrase that you use for your main WiFi router.

Now, you can unplug the extender and move it to a new location. But the area you choose to spot your device should be closer to the area with the worst WiFi signal and your main router.

  • Plug your extender into an electrical outlet.
  • Wait a few seconds for the Power LED to turn solid green.
  • For its setup process, open a web browser and type or mywifiext into the URL bar.
  • If not working, then you can enter (default IP address of your Netgear AC1200 extender).

Connect Your Netgear AC1200 (EX6120) With Web Browser Setup

  • First of all, on a computer, laptop, or any WiFi-enabled device, use a WiFi network manager.
  • After that, connect your device with available and active extender WiFi network.
  • Pull up a web browser.
  • Type or in the URL bar field of your internet browser.
  • As soon as the login displays, you have to hit the button ‘new extender setup’.
  • Complete all the required fields given on the ‘create account page’.
  • Once done, click on ‘next’.
  • Now, from the ‘regional settings’ menu, select your region or country (when prompted).
  • Click on ‘next’ once done.
  • On the displayed Netgear genie setup page, click on ‘WiFi range extender’ – select a network to extend and then click on ‘next’.
  • After that, in the field of ‘network key’, ‘passphrase’ or ‘password’, you have to type your existing WiFi network password.
  • Once done, click on ‘next’.
  • For your new extender WiFi network, set a unique SSID and a strong password.
  • Click on ‘next’ once done.

Now, a message will be displayed confirming that your extender is successfully connected to the new extended safe and secure WiFi network.

  • Here, you have to hit the ‘next’ button’.
  • When the registration page displays, complete all the required fields and hit the ‘finish’ button.

Note: To get setup success, registration of your device is very important.

Now, you can take the range extender and place it to your preferred location.

Make sure that your range extender and the router are placed away from the reach of cordless phones, Bluetooth speakers, doors, public WiFi, metal appliances, baby monitors, electronic gadgets, dishwasher, treadmill, and microwave.
